WAX SKETCHING MODELLING COURSES

AIMS This course is suitable for beginners and more experienced alike. You will be learning to use warm wax as the modelling material, modelling from reference to the life model/horses/animals or free thinking. A combination of quick expressive drawing sessions and a more observed study. A Professional working sculptor and an artist who have been creating artworks for decades, with previous teaching in higher education experience tutor the courses. The emphasis will be on working on wax sketch sculptures from sketch drawings you have made, combined with participants personal interpretations of your chosen subject. You will make several sketch wax models, aiming to make one of them your final piece. This sketch will be cast in bronze for you but there is the opportunity to have all your wax sketches cast into bronze, or come on the bronze casting course and learn to cast your own wax sculptures yourself.

CLASS SIZE Maximum of x6 students working with John McKenna ARBS or Peter Scott Tudhope MA (Fine Art).

DURATION x3 days course, option for students to stay in self-catering accommodation in our holiday annexe cottage adjacent to the studio workshop or local B&B. You can have an evening meal with us in the farmhouse 'en famille' by prior arrangement.

HOURS approx start 9:30AM until 12:30PM, break for lunch, then start back 1:30PM - 4:30PM, working later sometimes if deemed necessary.

PROGRAM DAY 1 Induction into the wax section workshop. Then x2 sessions of sketching poses from the life model/horses/animals or free thinking. Then you will select poses from you sketches you would wish to model in wax. DAY 2 Next – into the wax workshop - You will be instructed how to use hot tools to assemble and shape your wax sculpture sketches, spending some time to get a feel for this technique which you will employ to make your expressive wax sketch sculptures. DAY 3 Spend the whole day on your chosen pose for your final wax sculpture piece.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS This is not heavy work but you need to be in general good health. You will need old clothes/overalls when working with the wax. All other safety equipment will be supplied.

COST of the Wax-modelling course is £500 (incl of VAT) The fee covers your tuition, all materials used on the course to make a wax sculpture, and the casting of one of your smaller sketches into bronze. You can stay in our self cater accommodation, at a cost of £25/person/night. There are two rooms available as SC accommodation in our annexe cottage, first come first served! You will need to pay postage on your sculpture once it is cast in bronze or come back and collect it.
